Bias and The Evidence of Intelligent Design
When presenting a list of evidence in support of any scientific theory, individuals face an impossibly complex bias. For instance if you subscribe to the theory of evolution you begin your scientific research with a series of presumptions that provide the paradigm through which all scientific information is filtered. What this means is scientific data that would seem to contradict your belief in evolution would be dismissed as poor science simply because of its contradictory nature.
If you believe in the theory of intelligent design you also begin your study of the subject with a worldview that filters all scientific data.
Interestingly, each side in this debate culls from existing scientific laws to form their list of evidence. These statements are subject to the individual presuppositions of the scientists working toward discovery.
This scenario is a bit like saying there is no bias in news reporting. The truth is worldviews play a role in virtually every area of life. Journalists rely on their worldview to determine what news to report and how to report it. Journalistic integrity demands fair reporting, but an individual worldview will always play a role in the manner in which a news story is reported.
At Obvious Truths we want you to understand that we are willing to present evidence for intelligent design. This evidence is based on scientific evidence and follows scientific rules.
If you seek to refute the truth of these claims you will likely use scientific rules to support your claim, but you will also rely on presuppositions that your belief system will not allow to be compromised in contradictory dialogue.
Scientists work with observable data. Their work may be a bit like a Crime Scene Investigator who works at collecting data at a crime scene and then putting the pieces together based on the factual evidence they observe. One CSI agent can come to a conclusion based on the facts he observed while another agent collects similar data, but based on his own experience in investigation will come to a different conclusion - using the same set of facts.
Obvious Truths will use the same scientific data and the same set of scientific laws to develop scientific conclusions based on the paradigm of intelligent design. This will not be described as a link to organized religion, or as a philosophical debate (although there is such a thing as philosophical science).
The primary supposition for evolutionists is either there is no intelligent design in origins or that if there was a designer he was not involved in the creation and advance of mankind.
The primary supposition of intelligent design proponents is that the world is vastly complex with multiple systems required for the existence of mankind. That being the case there must be a purpose and design behind our existence.
