DEBATING THE ORIGINS OF LIFE
Creation vs EvolutionFor years people have debated life's origins and meaning. Creation, evolution, intelligent design, natural selection, are but some of the many terms that are used as these discussions take place. However, for many, they are left wondering "Why? Why the constant debate?"

Is it really that difficult to understand these puzzles? With the use of simple everyday logic, many of these seemingly complex issues are clearly evident. In fact, they are OBVIOUS.

Here at Obvious Truths we are dedicated to following evolution, creation, and many of life's most puzzling issues to conclusions based on logic and reason. We hope you find this site to be a valuable resource in your quest for the truth.

The Premise

At Obvious Truths we know there are a multitude of sites dedicated to origins and many are extremely effective in presenting extremely technical arguments. Since this strategy is in common use we opted for a discussion on origins that is based more on logical analysis. We will present technical aspects of the issue, but we will most often appeal to the need for a logical approach to assimilating the data related to origins.

The Human Body is designedListen to the Human Ear

The design of the human ear is a wonderful example of the unique nature of mankind. The belief that natural selection, time, chance and a good bit of luck is responsible for the ear seems a bit lacking in substance when you consider the incredible receptors that send auditory signals to the brain.

The manner in which the senses of sight, smell, taste, touch and hearing work together to provide the mind with ample input to reason is...

The Human Body is designedFollow the Evidence

The creation versus evolution debate has raged for decades. Many are left to wonder if there really is a debate anymore. The voice that dominates most origin discussions is that of evolutionary thought. Yet, we are left to consider the following; if the evolutionist theory holds so much weight why do those who espouse such beliefs insist on attacking intelligent design? If evolutionary thought were as clear-cut as many insist, there would be no debate.

Creation vs EvolutionThe evolution vs. creation debate is infused with natural selection and intelligent design theories. However, the current debate may be most surprising to the 'father of evolution' Charles Darwin.

Darwin was a maverick in that he refused to accept prevailing scientific thought as the final authority on creation and the origins of life. His questions stimulated the thinking of other scientists who joined him in the pursuit of questioning the status quo.

Darwin understood his views had created a powerful force, a force, which he may have never expected. Later in life Darwin wrote, "I was a young man with uninformed ideas. I threw out queries, suggestions, wondering all the time over everything; and to my astonishment the ideas took like wildfire. People made a religion of them."

There's no doubt Darwin was sold on the idea of evolutionary thought. In fact, Darwin seemed obsessed with his scientific questioning when he said, "It is a cursed evil to any man to become as absorbed in any subject as I am in mine."

Obvious Truths is dedicated to following evolution and creation to conclusions based on logic and reason. We can respect Darwin's desire to question scientific thought because we too have a desire to gain understanding of the origins of life.

In many ways the supposition that life evolved through a natural selection process sounds reasonable and even plausible, but does it stand up logically to observable evidence?

Creation may sound as if it is the stuff of fairy tales, but should the theory of intelligent design be discarded simply because it leads to theological implications? If the truth leads in the direction of intelligent design, should it be abandoned simply because it makes the scientific elite uncomfortable?

The purpose of Obvious Truths is to search for answers wherever they may be found using scientific knowledge, observable evidence and an eye toward logical and reasonable conclusions.

Dr. Carl Sagan once proclaimed, "We are the product of 4.5 billion years of fortuitous, slow biological evolution. There is no reason to think that the evolutionary process has stopped. Man is a transitional animal. He is not the climax of creation."

For the biblical creationist, Dr. Sagan's ideas of multiplied billions of years do not square with their religious instruction, but does it square with other scientific data? Obvious Truths will look into the subject of the age of the earth and see if we can uncover logical and reasonable evidence that points to a logical and reasonable conclusion.

If you are an evolutionist Obvious Truths will also explore another side to the origins of man with a tie to religious thought. Jane Hawking once wrote, "However far-reaching our intellectual achievements and however advanced our knowledge of Creation, without faith and a sense of our own spirituality there is only isolation and despair, and the human race is a lost cause."

Three times William Jennings Bryan was a presidential candidate for the Democratic Party. Jennings was an honored statesman and sought after speaker, yet it was his rally against Darwinism in the Scopes Monkey Trials he is most remembered for. Bryan once said, "Evolution seems to close the heart to some of the plainest spiritual truths while it opens the mind to the wildest guesses advanced in the name of science."

Don Kennedy who doesn't seem to be a proponent of the intelligent design theory provided a statement that seems to capture the way many scientists feel about a scientific discussion of creation. "I think what arouses the ire of scientists (about intelligent design) is ... the notion that it belongs in the same universe as scientific analysis."

It is true that many scientists do not consider creation a scientific topic. They are very willing to relegate the notion to a world religion or philosophy class, but what about the claims of creation scientists? Certainly many believe the term creation science is oxymoronic, but what if the position of intelligent design was given the same logical and reasonable discussion as its evolution counterpart?

Most information about evolutionary theory tends to present the argument as fact. Schools often present evolutionary theory as fact. Creation, or intelligent design theory, is most often disallowed from public school discussion, yet even Charles Darwin had doubts about the conclusions his questions left him with, "To suppose that the eye with all its inimitable contrivances for adjusting the focus to different distances, for admitting different amounts of light, and for the correction of spherical and chromatic aberration, could have been formed by natural selection, seems, I freely confess, absurd in the highest degree."

Obvious Truths is committed to reviewing the function of the human body and the world in which we live and following the evidence to see where it leads.

Is evolution a failed theory that is being refuted by existing scientific data or is it the best guess at what may have happened?

Is creation more theology than theory or is there more to it than most scientists care to acknowledge?

If you're willing to explore the issues of evolution vs. intelligent design then Obvious Truths is ready to journey with you.
